Thomas Muller has confirmed that he will leave record German Champions Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

Muller admitted in a statement Saturday that he had not been offered a new contract by the Bundesliga leaders and that he accepts their decision even if he does not agree with it.

The 35-year-old attacking midfielder, who started as a youth player and won a record 12 league crowns with Bayern, the most by any Bundesliga player, would have ideally liked to stay on.

"Even after all these years, regardless of the minutes I play, I still really enjoy being on the pitch with the lads and fighting for titles together for our team. I could have easily imagined taking on this role next year as well," he said.

Muller has played a staggering 743 times for Bayern, the most for the club.

"However, the club consciously decided not to negotiate a new contract with me for next season. Even if this wasn't in line with my personal wishes, it's important that the club follows its convictions. I respect this step, which the board and supervisory board certainly didn't take lightly," said Muller.

Muller has won 33 titles with Bayern overall and stands the opportunity to win more this season with Bayern, looking good both at home and in Europe.

They lead the Bundesliga by nine points with a handful of matches left this season and are also in the quarter finals of the UEFA Champions League where they take on Inter Milan next week.
